Cleaning Hammock With Spreader Bars

Hand Wash Hammock With A Hose

If you don't want to remove the spreader bars, you can spread the hammock onto a clean hard surface such as a deck or driveway. Hose it down with clean lukewarm water. Remove the dirt gently with a soft sponge or scrub brush.  For natural or ecru (beige) - colored rope, don't use any detergent. Use only lukewarm water to preserve the natural color of the rope. DO NOT USE bleach. Use cool water and mild detergent (and a handful of salt for color hammocks).

Hose it down until the water runs clean. When you have done one side, flip the hammock over and do the same thing in the other side of the hammock. Make sure you check the ropes of the hammocks for mildew and mold. Gently scrub these areas to prevent it from coming back. You have to be very careful in keeping the spreader bars dry.

While the hammock is wet, don't lift it by the ends. This may cause the rope to stretch from the weight of water. Lay the hammock flat and press out excess water and dry it flat in direct sunlight. It is possible that your hammock may take two days to dry.

When you have done one side, flip the hammock over and do the same thing on the other side. Make sure to check the ropes of the hammock for mildew and mold. Rinse the hammock with water until the water runs clean. Only use this method if you are able to assemble the hammock to the original design.

1- Untie the hammock from the joined spreader bar. Make sure ropes are not tangled and twisted. Untie all knots on rope attached to hammock bed, pull each of the clew ropes out of the spreader bar and tie all the clew ropes with a new string. Tie all the ropes from each end of the bed as well with a new rope. Make sure all ropes are folded and tied before washing.

2- Prepare the hammock by securing any loose strings. Hold the two ends of the bed in your hand, bring them together and fold the hammock in half. If the hammock has fringes make sure to fold it on top of the hammock's bed. Tie the hammock together with pieces of cord just below the ends and tie the hammock again at the opposite end. Tie the hammock one more time in the middle. This prevents the hammock from tangling. Fold the hammock in a bundle with a new string. Place it in a large pillow case and close the open end with large safety pins or additional strings.

3- Choose the delicate cycle, cool water for color hammocks and use mild detergent with a handful of salt to preserve the color.

4- For natural or ecru (beige) - colored rope choose the delicate cycle, don't use any detergent. Use only lukewarm water to preserve the natural color of the rope. DO NOT USE bleach.

5- When the delicate cycle is complete, gently untie all the strings. While the hammock is wet, don't lift it by the ends. This may cause the rope to stretch from the weight of water. Lay the hammock flat and press out excess water and dry it flat in direct sunlight. Do not use the hammock while drying. It is possible that your hammock may take two days to dry. After the hammock is dry you can attach the clew ropes by passing each one to the spreader bar holes and securing the hammock bed with knots.
